MP Kamal Khera speaks at Smart Freight Centre launch, April 18, 2019

April 18, 2019, Launch of Smart Freight Centre, Brampton, ON

Thank you Dr. Roorda for that kind introduction.

I am pleased to be here today on behalf of the Government of Canada, with my colleagues from all levels of government, to mark the launch of the Smart Freight Centre.

As Dr. Roorda mentioned, this initiative will leverage partnerships between government and industry to help innovate how goods and services are delivered throughout the Greater Golden Horseshoe Area.

Our government is proud to support this venture and we are laying down the foundation for Canada to remain competitive and succeed in today’s global economy.

Our government is not only partnering with business leaders, thinkers, other governments, but also the middle class and the next generation of workers to build a nation of innovators.

To build a nation of innovators, all Canadians need to see their opportunity to thrive in the new economy.

That’s why the government’s approach is putting Canadians first. In Canada, too often, good ideas, and promising initiatives don’t have what they need to grow.  By providing access to markets, capital, and talent, the Government of Canada is building on Canadians’ ideas to grow them into global commercial successes.

By building on Canada’s competitive advantages – the most highly-educated workforce in the world, unrivaled access to global markets, and a government that partners with business – companies are growing in Canada, coming to Canada, and investing in Canada, creating good middle-class jobs for Canadians.

Thank you again to everyone involved for bringing this initiative to fruition and leading the way for a more innovative Canada.
